The primary job of elected officials is to keep their constituents safe. Supporting public safety officials and agencies is crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of our communities.
Let's use our heads in this. These days, how many of us think twice before getting on a train or subway? How many of us think twice about taking a walk without constantly looking over our shoulders? How many of us think twice about visiting NYC these days? It wasn't like this not too long ago.
With crime rates soaring across the country, Laurie will support policies that enable our law enforcement agencies to do their jobs. At the same time, Laurie will hold accountable those who abuse their positions and power. The police and other agencies are here to protect us, all of us. We should be cooperating with all of them in order to do all we can to keep us safe.
Our NYS criminal reform policies, including the cashless-bail policy that returns dangerous criminals back to the streets, have caused immense harm to the residents of Westchester. Laurie will work to send legislation to the state to amend it, making our neighborhoods safer. She doesn't know one family or person who does not want to live safely.
We must do a better job with programs, housing, and facilities to help those in our community who experience mental illness, domestic abuse, and drug dependance. We know that most of our homeless population are not living on the streets due to lack of housing, it is due to mental illness. We do not need more housing, we need a better system of helping those in need.
Laurie is a staunch defender of our Second Amendment and wants to ensure that our community remains safe. She completely supports thorough background checks, continuing background checks and total collaboration of agencies including schools tracking mental health concerns and dangerous activity from early years. Records of children under 17 should not be expunged if they contain certain violent and threatening information or incidents. Simplified, when a gun shop owner types in the name of a potential buyer and nothing comes up on someone when a ton of stuff should, that's a huge problem.
Keeping us physically safe and healthy also includes housing and neighborhoods. Laurie will not support the engineering of neighborhoods. Kathy Hochul's proposed zoning laws will allow the state to take over town zoning rules. We should not do anything that jeopardizes the lives and safety of others nor upset the quality of life. Laurie supports local zoning and will protect single family zoning.
Keeping us safe includes taking care of our seniors, our teens, and our veterans to whom we owe so much. Laurie will work to make sure we take care of our own legal residents before money goes anywhere else. We should not have veterans on the streets, children living on the streets or seniors who can no longer afford to live in their homes. She is also committed to preserving and protecting Social Security..
Laurie will never support any policy that attempts to mask us, mandate vaccinating us with trial vaccines, lock us down, or close our businesses or schools - ever.
Keeping us safe also means keeping our girls safe. While I will be compassionate and supportive, I will not bend to the people who advocate for biological males playing in girls sports, entering girls bathrooms or locker rooms or biological males transferred to women's prisons.
LONG LIST FOR SURE - STILL NOT COMPLETE - BUT SO IMPORTANT.

HOMELESS SITUATION
We must do a better job with programs and housing and facilities to help our mentally ill, domestic abuse victims and those suffering addictions. We know that most of our homeless population are not living on the streets due to housing, it is due to mental illness and addiction. We do not need more housing, we need a better system of helping our folks in need.
Laurie was a high school math teacher for 36 years, 32 of them at Alexander Hamilton HS in Elmsford. Besides teaching math (and never lowering academic or behavior standards), Laurie created and ran programs that helped kids, all kids. She ran the Life is All About Choices for her seniors, she was part of the team that created service days, she provided equity by giving the kids the same start line but keeping it real by letting them know you only reach the finish line through hard work and self control. She arranged trips, brought in role models, had fundraisers and tons of activities to show kids there's so much that life offers. By doing this, she helped maintain the mental health of kids with positive and loving activites and a positive loving environment. She helped to create leaders.
Besides housing and services that greatly need to be improved, there are a ton of activities we can provide, along with our kids on board making decisions, to plan across Westchester.
In addition, being a teen today brings with it quite a variety of issues. We can provide opportunities to help "little" people turn into responsible big people who are contributing members of society. We can provide opportunities for jobs, training for careers and so much more.
Mental Health facilities and programs are grealty lacking. The folks who work and run these need help and we need to provide that help.

ADDRESS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION
I have to tell you, there was a time when I did not mind paying a bit extra to live in Westchester because we have some of the best schools and the best services in the country as well as our close proximity to the City and a pretty good life - but now? Holy Toledo costs have spiraled out of control.
We have been living in a time when everything costs - a lot - to say the least. Costs are crushing senior citizens on fixed incomes, small businesses (we see so many boarded up storefronts), working families, and young people just starting their careers.
If we address crime and taxes and costs, we provide the environment to allow people and businesses to thrive.
Laurie will work to make sure we take care of our own legal residents before money goes anywhere else. We should not have veterans on the streets or being removed from facilities where they live to accommodate others. We should not have children living on the streets or seniors who can no longer afford to live in their homes. Affordable housing should be for residents of a town or village to be able to remain there and not be priced right out.
ConEd - nothing more needs to be said. How's your electric bill looking? Laurie will work to ensure energy costs don’t spiral out of control. and, reign them in.
Laurie will only support a budget with a 2% cap across the board.
We must treat the county budget just like our own budget: by balancing it, and by not living above our means.
She fully supports Mike Lawler in his effort to repeal SALT (state and local tax) deducation cap.

INDIAN POINT
Laurie is not a climate change advocate. However, she is a staunch conservationist and "protector of our environment advocate". We all breathe the air and drink the water and plant in the soil. Laurie will write and support legislation that improves the quality of our drinking water, crack down on pollutants and contaminants, and protect our parks and open spaces.
As a strong proponent of expanded domestic energy production, including clean natural gas and nuclear power, Laurie believes Westchester and New York State must pursue an energy policy that strikes a balance between both. The reality is that plans that intend to end use of fossil fuels within the next decade are not realistic and threaten to drive energy costs even higher, representing a regressive tax on all of us as well as causing irreparable damage to our EARTH.
Laurie doe not support going ALL electric. Know the facts about how obtaining and maintaining minerals and "parts" for renewable energy enslaves children and causes more damage to our Earth.
Laurie will work diligently to make sure our recyling programs (public and private) are working and efficient, our water supplies and landfills and toxic locations are monitored with easily accessible results, and companies/individuals are held accountable for pollution violations.
Laurie also happens to have Indian Point right in her own backyard. She will work diligently and responsibly with any and every agency to make sure the demolition is monitored very closely as local residents are very, and rightly so, concerned about their health, safety and future.
care for our VETERANS
We MUST show our gratitude and support for those who have sacrificed so very much in order to keep us safe.
Veterans need access to top-notch healthcare, education & employment opportunities, housing and mental health services and companionship programs.
Thank you to Sgt Eddie Ryan.
care for our SENIORS
Seniors need access to necessary resources and services. These include companionship, healthcare assistance, community programs and affordability. While many of our seniors are more than capable of affording to remain where they live, many can not remain in their homes - this is where affordable housing takes precedent.
Laurie is committed to protecting and preserving Social Security and Medicare.
care for our ANIMALS
Westchester currently has an animal abuse registry but it only includes those who have been convicted of animal abuse crimes. I will further that by working with animal rescues to write and support policies to protect animals and wildlife and create a registry of people who can no longer adopt pets. In addition, we need more caring shelters. I will do everything I can to make that happen.
